Best Professional Practices for jolly Artists: The Artist Resume. While serving as a juror for a large group exhibition, I had to view a number of professional artist resumes. Edward Essay? Overall, the phonics s experience was less than pleasant. I was shocked and social constructs definition, dismayed by the disorganization I encountered. One resume did not have the artist#8217;s name at the topif they had been selected, there would have been NO WAY to s, contact them!

Several resumes did not include basic contact information. Others included lengthy descriptions of professional experiences that had nothing to rhetorical essay outline, do with an art career, and s, still others were difficult to social definition, navigate, with pages and pages of small-type font. S? I actually felt my brain hurting as I hunted for constructs the basic information and s, experience which mattered. If you are going to why is thinking important, be evaluated for a professional opportunity based on your resume, the number one thing you need to phonics s, do is important make your information easily available. Make the font legible. Keep the phonics s size large enough to read without reading glasses. Shows? Use bullets and clearly separated or labelled sections. Is there enough white space? Too much white space? If you fail to phonics s, cover these basics, your resume will be useless. The Art Resume vs.

The Employment Resume. Chopin Essay? Art resumes are very different from jolly your job resume. America Of Immigrants Essay? The purpose of an jolly s, art resume is to help an artist to win awards and grants, to gain acceptance into a residency program, or to of the, achieve exhibition opportunities. None of phonics this has anything to do with your former employment in non-art-related fields. Why Is Important? You will want to leave your employment experience out, for the most part. Another main issue: length. Typically, an art resume is two to phonics s, three pages long. If you are asked for racism in uk a #8216;Curriculum Vitae,#8217; this document can be many pages in phonics, length and include everything you#8217;ve ever done in art related fields, but a resume really should be no longer than two pages. Who is s your audience? What is your goal? The more research you can do on Edward R Murrow whoever is going to be reviewing your resume, the better for jolly you. How can you make yourself look most appealing to your audience? Often times, less information that has been carefully edited counts as more. Contact information is always first. Include your name, address, phone, email, and Edward R Murrow Essay, website.

I think it is a good idea to print this part larger than the rest for jolly phonics easy and quick viewing. The Story Of The Hour Chopin? Education goes next. Jolly Phonics S? Include your most recent degrees first. Critical Thinking? If you have a degree in something non-art related, you may want to leave it out. Competitive artist residencies can also be listed here as well.

I suggest putting #8216;Awards and phonics s, Honors#8217; next, if you have any. Essay? This category is important because it digtinguishes you from phonics all the other candidates. If you have been awarded a grant, put it here. If you received an art award at college graduation, it goes here. Any #8216;Best in racism in uk, Show#8217; awards, cash prizes, or other distinctions go here. Phonics S? These items are a big deal. Solo Exhibitions go next, listed chronologically. Mariette? This type of phonics s name-dropping is strategic, especially in john milton, an art world that is small and inter-connected. #8216;Group Exhibitions#8217; or #8216;Select Group Exhibitions#8217; (if you are editing) go next. For example, if your resume is part of racism in uk a packet you are sending to jolly phonics, a gallery, you may want to edit out why is critical, shows done in coffee shops or other #8216;non-gallery#8217; spaces. Jolly Phonics? Gallerists tend to shows, be snobs. Jolly? Also, if you have exhibited with a gallery that is seen as #8216;less desirable#8217; than the one you are applying to leave it out. Social Constructs Definition? If you have showed with someone that your goal gallery has a good relationship with, great highlight it by leaving out jolly phonics, #8216;filler.#8217; Your goal in racism in uk, this section is to display a breadth of experience and s, a professional appearance. You want to constructs definition, seem responsible and jolly, easy to R Murrow, work with this makes you a more desirable candidate. The next section should be #8216;Press#8217; or #8216;Select Bibliography.#8217; To be a viable candidate for pretty much anything, you need to have some kind of press. Press on online sources and blogs are absolutely fine. Jolly Phonics? Even a small local newspaper or newsletter is worth mentioning.

If a group show you participate in The Story of the Hour Chopin Essay, is reviewed, but you are not mentioned, then what? If you need more lines in your press section, then include it. If you have enough press to jolly phonics s, look respectable, leave it out. John? 8. Related Professional Experience. This last section is optional: #8216;Related Professional Experience.#8217; Remember, your artist resume is phonics not a job resume. The Story Of The Hour Chopin Essay? Your goal is phonics not getting a job, but rather a show, a grant, or a residency, therefore anything NOT art related should be left out. This section can include professional memberships, volunteering, published writing, and any art-related jobs you have held.

Don#8217;t worry if it seems like there are gaps here this is social not a job resume! I know that many professional resumes include an jolly, objective. Why Is Critical Important? Very useful post. Thanks. This is phonics a very helpful blog post for artists. Why Is Critical Thinking Important? I will pass it on phonics to all the recent art grads I know. Let me rephrase. We am not judging anyone who chooses to conform to Edward R Murrow, any process so as to get grants/jobs, whatever they participate in so as to make a living, get shown, etc. The advice here is jolly phonics s all excellent regarding this. That said, we had asked should an artist feel compelled to The Story of the Hour Essay, fill out resumes or artist statements in jolly phonics, traditional ways in why is critical important, the first place, if they feel the process does not represent them in the way they wish to be represented. For example some artists we know question why this almost corporate formulaic format exists at all.

They believe it to be archaic. Jolly? They ask who does it really serve anyone and Mariette in Ecstasy Essay, how? This questioning at least deserves consideration/ examination. Purposeful Annotation: A Close Reading Strategy that Makes Sense to My Students. Mmm tortilla chip crumbs. (Itll make sense later.) If you look at my original close reading post, youll see I was basically using the phrase close reading to refer to annotation. It took me a year or more to realize that I was saying one buzzwordy thing to mean a lot of explicit, less confusing things that readers do when grappling with a text. I blame my error on allowing myself to get sucked into the unfortunate vortex that was the buzzwordification of close reading. If youre new to the blog, though, keep in mind that while I do try not to take the phonics, educational establishment too terribly seriously (instead opting to occasionally poke fun at us), when it comes to helping students flourish in the long-term, Im dead serious. So when I call close reading a buzzword or write the America Is A, terms obituary, I dont want to give you the impression that we should let ourselves cynically dismiss the idea that reading is often hard, analytical and yes, even close work, especially when were dealing with complex, college- or career-level texts assigned by a teacher. Jolly Phonics S. We still need to teach kids, across the disciplines, how to wrestle with assigned texts, seeking, like Jacob , to get whatever blessing they have to Mariette in Ecstasy, bestow. So to s, help my kids get after it and dominate some life , Ive simply taken to a strategy that I call purposeful annotation. Purposeful annotation: heres what Im talking about. The big idea is this: what we do when reading should align with.

When my students have a text they can write on, the idea, then, is to annotate in a way that supports our purpose for reading and Mariette in Ecstasy, the parameters of our post-reading task (keep in mind that the purpose and the task should line up). Hence the jolly phonics s, wonderfully descriptive, beautifully unoriginal strategy name: purposeful annotation. Looking for an affordable, online professional development that elaborates on the concepts in this blog post? Click here to The Story of the Hour Essay, learn about Teaching with Articles, my go-at-your-own-pace online PD. As an jolly s, example, lets say Im helping my students think through the task of purposefully annotating a Kelly Gallagher-esque article of the week. In that case, the purpose I set for my students reading is, as The Gallagher put it in a recent posts comments section, to simply become smarter about the world, and the post-reading task is that they need to write a thoughtful 1+ page response. In that example, knowing that I want to dominate that post-reading task and that I simply need to get myself engaged with the probably unfamiliar and certainly unchosen content, I, as a student, ought to john shows, make annotations that begin to respond to the text.

Of course, I cant respond to jolly, something I dont understand, and so sometimes, especially when faced with a particularly befuddling sentence, paragraph, or section in R Murrow, the article, I ought to slow down, reread, and s, then annotate a brief summary or paraphrase of the America Is A Nation of Immigrants, challenging section in the margin. So, two things we can annotate, naturally, are 1) our responses to a text, and 2) our paraphrases/summaries of jolly bits of the text we had to wrestle with. These logically line up with what Im going to do with the of the by Kate, text after reading, as well as my purpose for jolly, reading it in the first place. The idea here is Is A Nation of Immigrants Essay, that Im writing these things in the margins these purposeful annotations not simply for a grade or because the jolly phonics s, teacher said, Do a close reading. Im doing it to help me dominate: the task of understanding and learning from the text while reading (this is one of my ultimate goals for my students that theyll read the texts I assign with self-kindled, habituated, cultivated curiosity, engaging with it for learnings sake), and the task of doing a thing with that text after reading (if my head is on straight as a teacher, theres going to be a piece of writing or a piece of speaking that every student will do with any given text). This obviously isnt as broad of a strategy as close reading, and honestly, thats why I like it and my students do, too. The core idea is that annotation should help the reader during and after reading . It should serve, as my friend and work-sister Erica Beaton has well put it, as the leaving of cyanide-laced breadcrumbs (okay, the America Nation, cyanide bit is mine but seriously, thats the jolly, right way to put it, because breadcrumbs alone get eaten by birds, while cyanide-laced breadcrumbs leave a nicely traceable, bird-covered trail). Mmm Dark and America Is A Nation of Immigrants, accurate my favorite flavor of analogy. Why teach purposeful annotation rather than some other method? I have two over-arching goals for my students each year that I think will get them on their way to a life that flourishes in the long-term.

I want to help as many kids as possible to figure out. why school matters to them and their lives, and then how to dominate the challenges of jolly school and, more broadly, life. So much of my thinking is still shaped by one of the central ideas of Jerry Graffs Clueless in Academe far too many students simply dont understand school, and frustratingly, that simply need not be so. A big part of helping kids get academia is Is A Nation of Immigrants Essay, showing them how argument is the essence of thought and then teaching them arguespeak across the school day They Say, I Say remains the best text in the world for helping with that. For me, Graff pointed out both the problem academia does a great job obscuring itself to students and a large part of the s, solution. Arguespeak is the language of power not just in The Story Chopin Essay, school, but in the world at large were foolish not to teach kids that. Yet the fact remains that, in K-12 schooling, far too many students simply do not take ownership of their educations (or their lives, really) . This is jolly phonics, a point that struck me like a freight train while reading the introduction of constructs David Conleys College, Careers, and the Common Core: What Every Educator Needs to Know . The [students] who had the greatest success were those who were willing to take some modicum of jolly phonics ownership of their learning and john milton shows, responsibility for their behavior. Jolly Phonics S. Once I had achieved this with them, the rest was much more straightforward.

For those who were not able to engage, no method or technique ever made much difference. This lesson about the Edward Essay, importance of ownership of jolly s learning never completely left me. Interestingly and unexpectedly, I had reached the conclusion that the social contract was a two-way street: society has a responsibility to create a level playing field, and individuals have a responsibility to take advantage of Is A Nation Essay it. Im sure Ill write more on jolly s ownership of learning this year as its a central burning question for my colleagues and me, but for the sake of this post suffice it to say that I believe the clearer we can be about Hour Essay, what we ask kids to jolly, do and why we ask them to do it, the more academia becomes unobscured and Hour Essay, the more likely it is that our students will come to a place where they can say, Yes schooling matters for me because _______________. In short, Ive found that the phonics, phrase purposeful annotation makes sense to my freshmen and racism in uk, explicitly shows them how to jolly s, work smarter not harder when reading and Mariette in Ecstasy, doing something with a text. So how do we do the purposeful annotation thing?

Weve looked at jolly phonics s, what purposeful annotation is, and Ive shared why I think its a strategy worth teaching kids. Milton. Now lets examine how to actually do the thing. Like I said, I try to teach my students to let their purpose for reading the text dictate what they do while theyre reading it. For my what does this look like in a gradebook readers (I feel you), I do consistently assign a grade to whether my students, at jolly phonics s, minimum, write 1-2 thoughtful, purpose-driven annotations in the margins of each page of a shorter complex text . (I explain how I grade articles of the week in this post.) Heres an annotation that demonstrates thoughtful engagement with the john, text. Heres an annotation that shows little evidence of thought. I dont mark kids down for this, but I also dont give them credit for it.

Responding with OMG, smiley faces, etc. is a strategy for staying engaged with a text and responding to jolly, it emotionally, but I want more when kids annotate. When my students read something Ive assigned, I normally set the purpose for the reading thats a simple way to scaffold a text for all readers. I often allow for some choice within that purpose (for example, with the definition, article of the week, I follow Gallaghers lead and tend to give 1-3 possible response options), or to set it broadly enough to allow for some individual expression. Possible response options for a sample Gallagher-style article of the week. This comes from annotation instructions written by phonics, my colleague, Doug Stark.

With that said, here are the kinds of annotations I recommend kids try (remember, 1-2 thoughtful interactions per page) based on their purpose for reading. If your purpose for constructs, reading is to learn the content : Summarize a sentence or paragraph Paraphrase a sentence or paragraph Circle and define key words. If your purpose for reading is to end by responding to a specific prompt : Annotate toward that prompt. If youre being asked to evaluate, make evaluative annotations. Jolly S. If youre being asked to analyze, make analytical annotations.

If youre thinking, Um, my kids dont really know what those verbs mean, then use Jim Burkes A-List (pictured and social definition, linked to phonics, below). Jim Burkes A-List can help students unpack what the verbs in shows, a prompt mean. Keep in phonics s, mind that I dont always have kids respond to a text in writing; sometimes their response will be via an assessed discussion or debate. I always have a few students per class who insist that they just cant annotate while they read (and there are always a few teacher participants in my workshops who insist that theyve never done it and see no need to now). Before these folks can authentically use the strategy of purposeful annotation, they need to develop a growth mindset on the issue. Rather than I dont do that or I cant do that, I urge them to social definition, instead say, Ive not done that before or Ive not been able to phonics, do that before. For my students who say they cant, I watch them read and, more often than not, I see them zoning out in the middle of a page, or doing the My eyes read it but my brain didnt thing that we all do. Annotation, Ive found, can help my students focus on The Story by Kate Chopin Essay a text, especially when that annotation is purposeful rather than fill in s, the margins as much as you can.

And then there are those students who just read, understand, and constructs definition, retain it all. I try coaching them into s, the mindset that purposeful annotation is meant to The Story of the Hour Essay, make their post-reading work both stronger and more efficient. S. By choosing to annotate only portions of the of the, text that they want to address further in the writing or speaking well be doing after reading, theyre allowing their brain to leave those breadcrumbs on the page rather than keeping those notes in jolly phonics s, their brains (for an awesome article on how not writing things down keeps information in your brains rehearsal loops, check this out.) Time out: what about teachers who see no value in annotation? I know some readers are coaches, administrators, PLC leaders, department chairs, and so on, and if youve been trying to push close reading or annotation at your school, youve probably run into resistant folks. Here are a few things to think about: Are you referring to Edward, annotation as close reading? See the video below (or click here to view at jolly, Youtube). Instead of requiring all teachers to use a complicated coding system when teaching their kids to annotate, empower them with the idea of purposeful annotation. The means need to racism in uk, fit the ends. Think deeply about the why . Use my Why teach section above to help.

Share this Eric Barker article with them, particularly #1 and the concept of jolly rehearsal loops. John Milton. Annotation allows us to get our 1-2 I could expand on these in the post-reading writing or speaking task thoughts on paper and out of our brains rehearsal loops. This empties our brains, and thats a good thing, as the s, posts author explains. Fight relentlessly against Mariette in Ecstasy this becoming busywork. The thing is, annotation totally becomes busywork when we expect all students to do a ton of it . Phonics. Some learners like annotating the definition, crud out of things; others naturally dont add a jot or tittle to the margins of a text. To help all kids benefit from purposeful annotation then, we need reasonable expectations and jolly phonics, thats why I expect every kid to include 1-2 thoughtful annotations per page. Thoughtful, you say. Wow.

Thats so incredibly descriptive, Dave. Thank you. For nothing. If thats confusing, go back up to Is A Essay, the comparative examples I gave a few sections above. One more thing: try to coach students out of the Im going to read it through one time without annotating, and then another time with annotating. If theyre doing this because theyre confused on the first read-through, show them how to break down difficult sections of a text and paraphrase or summarize the jolly phonics s, gist this kind of annotating aids comprehension. On the other hand, if theyre doing this because they just dont feel like it or they dont like it, we want to help them get the hang of annotating as they read, keeping their purpose for reading in the front of their mind . The point of having kids do this is Is A of Immigrants Essay, helping them efficiently internalize a purpose for reading, read toward that purpose, and then write or speak in line with that purpose. Finally, refer back to your annotations after reading and use them to work smarter. Youll know youre doing purposeful annotation right when looking back on your annotations after reading results in an easier time with the post-reading task, be it writing, discussion, debate, or learning new content. Unlike back in the day when I would tell my kids to close read an article, I feel good and clear when I teach them and phonics s, expect them to purposefully annotate instead. If you do something like this, or something totally different, Id love to hear it. The Story Of The By Kate. And, as always, your critiques are welcome, too.

So much of what I share on jolly is the Essay, epitome of rough draft thinking, down to jolly phonics s, the smallest, most annoying typos #128578; (Sorry about constructs, those.) 73 Responses to Purposeful Annotation: A Close Reading Strategy that Makes Sense to jolly phonics, My Students. I totally agree with you. Ive been saying the same thing to shows, the teachers I work with. And am disappointed and concerned when I hear of teachers that assign annotating or journaling with NO purpose in jolly phonics s, mind.

For those teachers students I feel sorry for them; they are not findng a purpose for reading in depth. Carla, thank you! We can spread some sanity on in Ecstasy this issue, I think. S. Share this post liberally, dear comrade #128578; Hey Dave! You nailed it here. Annotating while I read helps me to comprehend, remember, and Essay, perhaps apply what I have learned through the reading. I have had teachers who want to take annotation and jolly s, make it cute with symbols, but without the definition, written thought of the reader, they do very little (if any) good. Jolly Phonics S. You articulated this thinking well in your article! Thank you!

Christy, its always great to hear from you! Thanks for the feedback and I hope all is well in IL and OH! This semester I have tried a purposeful annotation approach-I put four students in a reading group and gave the group 4 reading threads-writers craft, plot, character development, and theme. Each student was given a thread to follow that came with some questions that helped them to The Story Hour Chopin Essay, think deeper about the text. They were asked to annotate and mark places where they felt they could go to phonics s, to answer the questions on their thread. Edward R Murrow Essay. In other words, no one wrote out phonics s, answers to milton, reading questions, they just kept track of where this information could be found through their annotations, Once a week we had a group quiz where everyone brought their annotated texts to class to use to answer 3 essay-sque questions about the chapters they read that week. I make sure each question draws on at least 2+ of the threads so everyone has something to say, and at least half can pull from their annotations.

They find these quizzes hard/difficult because they ask them to really think about the jolly, text. they also find them meaningful because they help them to Mariette in Ecstasy, understand what is happening in phonics s, the text, give them an opportunity to talk about difficult spots and john milton, get to a point of understanding, and provide them with the opportunity to jolly phonics s, collaborate. They all get the same grade which is a mere 20 points in the informal assessment column, but they take these quizzes so seriously! It is better than discussion, reading questions, or actual individual quizzes because they understand the text. I have not had to give 1 lecture about The Scarlet Letter, and yet they are able to relate to McCarthyism, Puritanism, and social definition, the Gothic Romantics which we study in phonics, class. I find giving my students a reason to read and annotate so important for self-reliance and gaining the confidence to racism in uk, understand difficult literature. Dave love your ideas and thoughts on purposeful annotation.

This skill helps my special ed students break down text, save unknown words or statements for s, later discussion, and summarize sections. We are still working on making it a more autonomous skill, but its never busy work its purposeful. :). Thanks for your info and sense of humor. Stacy, thats my pleasure. I can tell youre intentional with this, and john, thats the key, I think. Take care Stacy #128578; Its Saturday night, and a great time to do a little educational reading of Dave Stuart Jr.s writing. Student ownership of education, that you touched on, is the topic that has my mental wheels turning.

Student ownership of education reminds me of some notes I took during my In-Service days this Fall. The notes listed research results done by Dr. Jolly Phonics. Robert Marzano on activities that had the highest effectiveness on student learning. The top two educational activities I noted for all subject areas were students tracking their own progress, and students setting their own learning goals. When I think of Mariette my students that struggle to own their education, it strikes me that often these are the jolly s, same students that may need my assistance in breaking down an assignment into bite size pieces that can be digested and Edward R Murrow, completed bit-by-bit. Really, setting educational goals need to happen in the same waylearning goal by learning goal. This would look like an IEP that is reviewed and tweaked every couple of phonics s weeks, rather than once a year, and would be written one-on-one between the definition, teacher and phonics, student. Practicing goal setting and analysis of the learning results between myself and my students could very well lead to students owning and embracing their education, if I help my students set obtainable goals that would lead to successful outcomes. And here you thought you were writing about definition, purposeful annotation. :- Thanks, Dave, for your scholarly thinking and willingness to share your thoughts with me!

Im proud of you. Jolly S. (Cousin) Shelley. Shelley, at first when I was reading this comment in my inbox, I was like, Wow, I am feeling what this person is saying its almost as if were related. And then, sure enough, we were #128578; Ownership of learning is at the forefront of my thinking and seeking this year. I think the of the, process you describe makes sense, too you are far ahead of jolly phonics me in your thinking! Always good to hear from you Shelley! I hope all is well in Edward R Murrow, Cale #128578; Years ago , I tried to convince my middle school colleagues the importance of annotating and they just could not accept it. S. Finally, years later after some in service, many have accepted it as a way to learn. I am so happy that you and others in America Is A of Immigrants Essay, the education world are writing about the phonics s, value of constructs definition this great strategy to aid comprehension as well as speaking and writing.

I am truly grateful to you. Bev, I hope this article helps people see what annotation is phonics, good for (and also what its not good for). Take care, and thank you for your comment! Thanks Dave! I appreciate the intentional direction that purposeful annotation brings to the discussion about R Murrow Essay, close reading.

Kids are tired of doing meaningless work and I am tired of point grubbing responses. We have better things to jolly phonics s, do! Its seriously my pleasure, Don. I am also tired of it, and we cant blame the kids, can we? Take care! Holy crap. Hands down, the America Is A of Immigrants, best info on annotating Ive ever seen. This is jolly phonics, seriously the bomb-diggity.

Thats high praise, Carianna thank you so much! It is The Story of the Hour Essay, always a pleasure to meet someone who gets what comes out of my brain #128578; Good grief! Brilliant! I took notes while reading this! I learned more reading this than I have in PD in phonics s, quotes because those seem more beneficial for those giving (credit, $) than for milton, those dying through it.

Its so good to phonics, hear that this was worth your time, Ebonye76. Social. Thank you for your kind words #128578; Awesome job with the content on your website! I am 5th grade teacher and jolly, have been using your ideas and of the Chopin, adapting them for my classroom (lots of s good discussion lately) The articles of the week are awesome! I recently did one where I introduced it on Monday and in Ecstasy Essay, we had a debate on Friday (yes, 5th grade) To my surprise, the strongest debater was one of my students who reads at a 1st grade level! The evidence he brought was amazing (this is after I was told that the students couldnt do it!) Anyway thanks! Question: How would you go about jolly phonics s, using NEWSEla in a small group setting? Maybe using one article for the week, but for constructs, a different purpose.

Just trying to get some ideas! Thank you for your time. Jim, I hugely appreciate the feedback! Im thrilled that the work Im sharing translates into jolly phonics s, a 5th grade setting. Do be careful with some of my articles as the content of one (it was actually a Kelly Gallagher AoW) recently raised some controversy in Texas (it was the What is ISIS? article). Isnt it thrilling when a kid comes alive through debate? I would probably do as you propose using Newsela with a small group Id try it, see how it worked, and tweak as needed.

Keep dominating life, Jim! I really like newsela because it help me to differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of my students with different lexile levels while maintaining the same topic-excellent new resource I have been using today. Hi Dave! So I see how we can annotate informational texts, but how would we go about having the kiddos annotate in their novels? Ideas there?

Thanks! Erin, post-it notes are useful for annotating school novels. Ive also had much success with students in different class periods conversing with each other on post it notes in a class set of novels according to specific purposes for reading. Dave, I couldnt embrace the concept of Hour by Kate Chopin doing close reading when reading closely suffices to name the jolly s, process by which we make sense out of difficult text. Thank you again for spreading the word about The Story Hour Chopin Essay, how to encourage meaningful, purposeful work. Exactly what Susan said, Erin #128578; Thank you, Susan, for giving me things to phonics s, think about #128578; Thanks! I did plan on R Murrow using post its. I just dont want them to go post it crazy, and was looking for s, more ideas on using those post its. Essay. I want them maybe to s, pick one and write longer about it at least once a week, but Im thinking then kids will only see that as a task to completewrite a post it so I can get the assignment of writing in my notebook about it.

They need to write about their reading, but I just cannot read 120 post its or responses weekly. Thoughts? Yes, you cannot possibly read that much I agree. You could grade one of those responses per kid per definition book. You could also have students contribute to a whole-class, graded (and taught) discussion based on those post-its, too. This saves you some grading and jolly s, gives them precious practice in what Erik Palmer calls the neglected language arts of speaking and by Kate, listening. I really like this idea of jolly phonics incorporating whole class mandatory discussion. I can see how I can do that with my read aloud for sure, but not sure how to in Ecstasy, handle it when they are all in different books. Love love love your awesome blog. Jolly Phonics S. Stupendous ideas! Erin, its really tricky with student choice books thats one of the beauties of occasionally doing the whole class book.

Thank you Erin! I completely agree with your conclusion that ownership of learning, or lack of, has a major impact on student success. Can it be something that can be taught? In the meantime,I am excited to milton, teach a lesson on purposeful annotating to jolly phonics, my third graders tomorrow! Mary, Im thrilled that you agree and of Immigrants Essay, I do think that ownership of learning can be taught; I think its a skill that must be learned. However, I dont think any single teacher or person can be expected to teach this to jolly phonics, every single kid. Instead, I aim to move each student further toward ownership; if ownership were the milton shows, alphabet, I want my G kids, with minimal ownership, to jolly s, move closer to Z yet I dont expect them all to arrive at Z. I came across your article with the purposes if gaining a deeper understanding of annotating. In observing classes. I see books filled with annotations. Students report having to annotate a certain way and feeling stressed that it is not done right.

Others report they dont understand the purpose behind annotating entire books in this way. They dont enjoy reading like this. John Shows. They are not owning their learning, but rather complying to the rules in the class. Jolly Phonics S. Not what I would want for seniors. As someone who was never taught in this way, I am trying to understand more. I found your article helpful to gain some insight into definition, the teachers purpose, but also be able to jolly s, ask better questions on R Murrow Essay behalf of the students. Thank you for getting me started! Laurie, thanks so much for s, taking the time to write Im so glad this helped a bit. It sounds like you and I are in the same place: dissatisfied with top-heavy systems of annotation that dont allow room for student autonomy.

Be in touch if I can be of milton shows further service, Laurie! What a great post. Im planning on using your methods to introduce annotation to my seventh graders tomorrow. I think the jolly, key is in your two steps: why were reading and what are we doing with the reading once we are donebeing purposeful! I linked to it in my most recent blog post: this has been fantastic. Im so glad to R Murrow, hear that, D!

You speak my language, Dave! After reading this post, Im feeling much enthusiasm about the upcoming school year! Michelle, I love finding people who speak the language. Thats why I write #128578; Just found this entry and Im really glad I did. Im a big proponent of annotation but have been looking to do it in a way that is more purposeful and efficient. This makes perfect sense. Its like applying another best practice, backwards planning to the strategy.

That is, setting the jolly phonics, goal first, then tailoring the activity to fit that goal. Thank you for posting this. Im looking forward to discovering all of the Essay, wonderful bird-covered trails my students leave behind! I stumbled across this while I was preparing for a meeting with my sons guidance counselor. Hes in 10th grade Pre-AP English and, for the second year in a row, hes being required to annotate every reference on every page of every book they read: R1Main Idea: Blue/arrows. R2/R2aFigurative Lanuage/Character Archetypes: Green/underline once.

R3Culture Society: Pink/squiggle underline. R4Authors Style: Orange/Circle. R5Comparing to other texts: No color/ *(write name of text/author) R6Inferences Predictions: Yellow/Check mark. It is, as you described above, busy work. And he is starting to hate literature.

They never discuss the annotations. They just turn the book in jolly, after the test for a grade. No other feedback. They also do not have class discussions about the milton, books. Nor do they use the annotations for any written assignments. Phonics. He was homeschooled until last year and Im very frustrated with the quality of education in what is supposed to be an America Essay, advanced class. Melissa, this does sound tough just keep in jolly phonics, mind that his teacher is probably stressed, pressured, and R Murrow, dizzied by ever-increasing demands.

Are the annotations indeed read by the teacher? I would recommend your son do exactly as I try to jolly, do when demands are placed upon me that inhibit my work I modify them until they become helpful, and I try to Essay, do so with a humble demeanor so as not to phonics s, draw anyones ire. Best to you and your son! Hi Melissa, Im in the same situation you were a couple of years ago but Im preparing to meet with the teacher first. Mariette In Ecstasy Essay. Do you have any advice for me from your experience? This annotation task is jolly phonics s, making my book loving 5th grader start to hate books and feel discouraged with herself. This is killing my heart. She is reading at a ridiculously slow pace for her and she says its because she cant enjoy the book while she debating with herself Im reading that the main character is insecure and unsure about how to address the school principal is this a character trait (should highlight in yellow) or a problem (highlight in john, orange). This is phonics, killing her and Mariette in Ecstasy Essay, Im not knowing how to help. I loved seen her devour piles of books, and read a few pages of some and drop them because she doesnt like them.

Now its all assigned reading and phonics, this annotation thing is pointless. The book needs to look like a rainbow. My rule follower feels pressured to Edward, find many colors and make lots of jolly phonics margin notes because thats what the teacher asks! She doesnt have a problem understanding books. Many times if she loves a book she asks me to read it so we can discuss it. And we do.

She understands what shes reading without annotating it. I see the point in annotating an article or a scientific paper where you are trying to analyze and America of Immigrants, assimilate as much info as you can. But what is the point of the color coding and margin notes in phonics, a novel? Dave and racism in uk, others here what do you suggest? Of course Im supportive of the teacher in phonics, front of my daughter but this is killing me. America Nation Essay. Thanks! Hi Marta, thank you for writing. This sounds like a basic case of unintentional readicide (Kelly Gallagher has a book by that title, and you could use that book if you need to jolly s, take things beyond the teacher). As a teacher myself, let me say THANK YOU for 1) going to the teacher first, and milton, 2) being supportive of the s, teacher in front of your daughter. You are handling things the racism in uk, way I would love for a parent to handle a concern with any of my own practices.

With that said, if the teacher doesnt budge based on s the reasons / anecdotes youve given here, I do think its important to move to the administration. Edward Essay. My prayer is that it wont come to that and the teacher will modify his/her expectations. Keep us updated. Dave, I am just discovering your articles, and jolly phonics, I am intrigued! It is America Nation of Immigrants Essay, as bad as Pinterest where I am drawn from one thing to another and just cant stop. In Louisiana, we give an jolly phonics, End of Course test.

I am all about racism in uk, annotating and marking up a text, but when it comes to standardized testing, it is jolly s, done on the computer. Do you have any strategies for annotating a text they cannot write on? I am currently just making them write their annotations on a sheet of paper, but I am struggling with getting them to be sure that what they write is meaningful and not simply just a summary of what they are reading. Any advice will help! Heidi, what a privilege to have you on the journey #128578; I sort of shudder at these computer-based tests that ask kids to annotate. If I were reading an article online and had to racism in uk, write using textual evidence from the article, I would pray that there be some way to jolly phonics, take notes in the text box or whatever Im supposed to compose my writing in. Essay. There, I would keep the jolly phonics s, occasional note that might help me in my writing. In terms of of the Hour by Kate Essay pushing kids past summary, try They Say, I Say Ive written on it here on the blog, and its the work of Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein. Love your arguments on purposeful annotation (thank you!) and so enthusiastically, I prepared a lesson and phonics, tried it out yesterday for racism in uk, the first time. But today, I am feeling a bit discouraged.

Do the jolly s, students you teach end up loving this or just us teachers because we see the value in it? I teach 7th grade reading and LA. The Story Chopin. Yesterday in class I went through the first page of a short story, demonstrating how Id question or comment upon what I read in the margins (I was a terrific actress, commenting on s things and jotting down a short note like Wow I wonder why he did that?). America Nation Of Immigrants Essay. For homework, they had to finish the remaining four pages. Today I had them work in groups and jolly phonics s, share their ideas about annotating (if they enjoyed it, what sorts of things did they find themselves commenting on, etc), and then to send me a group share list with their thoughts. Although a few kids liked it and admitted it made them notice more things, overwhelming the groups said they did not like it or find it useful.

Quote: We all said NO, we dont like it. Why should we write our thoughts down when we think them? Sometimes we dont want our thoughts to be shared on a paper for social, everyone to see. Jolly. We think it is not useful. Now I never said they had to share their thoughts with each other, and in fact, mentioned I wouldnt be grading them. (I requested they do about The Story Hour Chopin Essay, 3 annotations per page, but there was no set requirement) So do you think this is this a typical 7th grader not wanting to jolly phonics s, work differently/ general aversion to trying something new? Or is commenting about things as they read not purposeful enough? I plan to use this technique for constructs definition, a novel study coming up next week, but wished the phonics s, students enjoyed it more.

Is it a matter of giving them a few questions to constructs definition, focus on jolly s before we read, or is this something theyll grow to love? #128578; Quick question: Why is it bad for students to Mariette Essay, read the s, article once for the gist and then annotate on the second read? Im torn on this one. LOVE your article thank you so much. Captured so much about the racism in uk, ins and outs of the process, the s, snarly tough parts of teaching kids to constructs definition, annotate..with some great solutions.. Do you see any value in group annotation using, for instance, the app? Im familiar with that application, Scott. I could see value in jolly s, group annotation, and America Is A, I would at least be interested in jolly phonics s, experimenting with it. Im spending some time this summer thinking about annotation and what we ask kids to do. Many of my students annotate to satisfy the teacher and not because it serves a purpose for them. I think the goal of annotation is to equip them with that tool when they need it obviously they wont annotate everything they read, but its there when they need it.

And I love the racism in uk, idea of beginning with the end in mind and jolly, linking it to something they have to do at the end. Ive asked this question to several of my colleagues and Im curious what you would say. If I assign a novel for kids to read and annotate outside of in Ecstasy Essay class, how much time should they spend reading vs. S. annotating? I define reading as anything that doesnt involve writing something down; annotation would be anything that involves pen, highlighter, or post-its. Could you give me an Edward, ideal percentage? Is it different for jolly phonics s, articles? Great question, David. I would say that with a novel it should be much less annotation than an john shows, article its longer, we want kids to get into flow, etc.

Typically with novel homework I only expect kids to come back the next day with questions or insights sometimes I set a number, sometimes I dont. I am sure I picked that up from Kelly Gallagher once upon jolly phonics, a time he does something sometimes called 20 Questions, I think. So I cant give you a percentage, but there should be vastly more reading happening than annotating, in my opinion, when it comes to novels or just about anything else. I am so happy to have read this article with all of its attached side articles. I am really in a place to social, understand and jolly phonics s, incorporate this into my teaching this year. I have noticed lately that students have figured out that many teachers with their close reading and annotations have really become more busy work, and many have protested.

I was in the process of creating a cheat sheet about racism in uk, Annotating (with explanations about phonics, why and how) when I read your article and it really explained exactly what I wanted to share with my students. You wrote this so long ago and its still relevant. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Lisa, what a lovely compliment: You wrote this so long ago and its still relevant. Thank you. Your article on Essay annotation has been so helpful to me. It supports and augments what I already teach my students to jolly, do with paper texts. My current challenge is how to teach students to definition, annotate texts on the computer. Our state tests are now computerized and jolly, my students complain because they cannot annotate. Do you have any suggestions? Leigh, this is brave new world territory I havent yet had students annotate digitally. Our state test was computerized, for a year, but then we dropped it or changed tests or something.

I cant even keep the state tests straight in Michigan. Social Definition. Its changed every year for at jolly phonics s, least the last three years. Ive expected my students to purposefully annotate for a few years now, but I still struggle with the grading aspect. John Milton. I would love to get to the point where students would annotate without a grade attached because they see the value of those annotations (and want to follow the breadcrumbs), but Ive never gotten there. Instead, I am overwhelmed with checking 100+ novels every unit for annotations and feeling as if I can never really grade them effectively and efficiently. Any advice? For novels, I just have students come to phonics s, class with 5+ insights, comments, questions, or confusions from the previous days or nights reading. I put a grade in the gradebook, but its only not a zero if kids are obviously not doing the work (which I check at the start of class during the social, Think-Pair-Share we do with their 5+ things. I hope that helps a bit.

This is jolly phonics s, smart and thoughtful. Thanks for racism in uk, posting. I appreciate that Lulu! Thanks for the article Dave. Ive re-entered the jolly s, teaching realm after a 9 year sabbatical and am searching for Edward Essay, strategies to help my students. We are preparing to read some Puritan literature and The Scarlet Letter.

I am searching for some reading strategies to practice on the required short readings then utilize them in The Scarlet Letter. I definitely see the purpose of jolly phonics s purposeful annotation and believe I understand the Edward Essay, gist of jolly phonics s it. You mentioned, though, that you dont use it a lot throughout a novel. How can I utilize this strategy for The Scarlet Letter? This was exactly that which I didnt know I was looking for.

I dont know if that made any sense but thank you for America of Immigrants Essay, this article. I took AP English classes in high school with endless amounts of busywork annotating. Today, in college a professor asked me to annotate an article and jolly phonics, write a reflection. The reflection is easy but I had no idea how to annotate this in a way that made any sense. That frustration and angst I recall so fondly from high school flooded back into me. Milton Shows. Youd think that a college sophomore could annotate one simple article but I put it off for weeks because I didnt want to jolly phonics, turn it in and have the Mariette in Ecstasy Essay, professor hand it back to me because my annotations didnt make sense.

Finally, in desperation I did a google search. This one blog entry explained annotating better than every English class Ive ever taken combined. THANK YOU. Paige, this was kind of an incredible piece of praise. Jolly Phonics. Really amazing. Thank YOU! Thanks for constructs, sharing the Harvards six reading habits! These will be very helpful as I redesign a critical reading course. You are all very smart. Wonderful article! Love the part about students ownership of jolly phonics their education.

Thanks for this post, Dave! I have been teaching English Language Arts for 16 years, and I have the Edward R Murrow, most difficult time teaching kids to s, annotate because I have never needed to do so. John Milton. I tend to phonics, do it all in my head as I am reading. Most of my students are incapable of Essay that though. Your article helps a lot. I wish I had discovered it at the beginning of the school year though. Thank you for this, Dave. What is your view of digital annotations? Were a 1:1 school, and phonics s, I bounce back and forth between wanting my students to read a physical book (I teach biblical studies, so the Hebrew Bible/New Testament), or offering the option to in Ecstasy, read the phonics, text online. Would you find doing annotations online to be as effective as writing annotations? Kay, I think digital annotations can be done just as purposefully as handwritten ones.

I dont ask students to use digital annotation much because Im not anything class to Mariette, a paperless classroom. I suppose, though, that the jolly s, only time I use digital annotations is when I am reading the Essay, Bible online so, if you were my teacher asking me to jolly s, do something like that, Id be doing something that was pretty natural! After 10 years of teaching ESL at a community college, I was just (and I mean just) hired to teach a course called College Reading at a small liberal arts college. R Murrow. Thank you for clarifying something crucial for me and for my students! And thanks for the links you provided I am so happy to have discovered your words at phonics, the beginning of our homeschooling journey. My daughter is a freshman. Your call for ownership of ones education echo my thoughts exactly and Im thrilled that you have given me insight into Edward R Murrow, this tool as well as all of the helpful links.

She is taking a Socratic discussion course through the Well-Trained Mind Academy and jolly phonics, is already enjoying The Art of Argument, although we will certainly check out They Say, I Say upon your recommendation. Thank you!

model history essay The following outline is phonics, intended as to john milton, provide one example of how to write an essay. Treat it as food for thought, as providing a set of suggestions some of which you might incorporate into your own method for writing essays. It is useful to begin by considering why essay-writing has long been the method of choice for assessment in history. Phonics S? The chief reason is Nation of Immigrants Essay, that no other method provides as effective a means of testing a student's comprehension of a topic. Jolly Phonics? We want you to show us that not only have you acquired a knowledge of the constructs definition, topic but also that you fully understand the topic and the issues raised by it. Essays test understanding by asking you to jolly phonics, select and re-organise relevant material in milton order to produce your own answer to the set question.

An undergraduate essay need not be particularly innovative in its approach and jolly phonics s, insights, but it must be the product of the student's own dialogue with the Is A of Immigrants Essay, subject. Essays which do not answer the question can only be regarded as demonstrating some knowledge of the topic, they cannot be said to phonics s, show understanding of the topic. Mariette In Ecstasy Essay? Essays which plagiarise or merely reproduce what others have said do not even show knowledge of the topic. Plagiarism is jolly phonics s, thus not merely a matter of theft, it involves an entirely unacceptable subversion of the learning process. 2. Racism In Uk? Is there a right and a wrong answer?

History essays are less about jolly phonics, finding the correct answer to the set question than they are about demonstrating that you understand the issues which it raises (and the texts which discuss these issues). With most historical problems (certainly the most interesting ones) it is seldom possible to arrive at social a definitive answer. The evidence almost always permits a variety of solutions, and different approaches generate divergent conclusions. There are, however, limits to the field of possible solutions, since they must fit in with 'the evidence'. Of course, exactly what constitutes 'the evidence' is jolly phonics s, almost invariably one of the issues under discussion among the historians who are most deeply engaged with the problem, but in general for each historical question there will be a body of evidence which is recognised as being relevant to it. This body of evidence will typically comprise what the primary sources tell us about the events and phenomena under discussion.

A good answer will need to harmonise with all of this evidence, or explain why particular items have been dismissed as having no bearing on the problem. It follows from all of this that there certainly are wrong answers that is, answers which fall outside the field of social constructs definition, possible solutions or which fail to take account of received evidence even though there is no 'absolutely right' answer. Essential steps: select a question; identify the subject of the question; what are you being asked to do - that is, what kind of information will you need to answer the question, and how will you have to treat it? Circling the key words in the question is sometimes a helpful first step in working out exactly what you need to do. It is useful to note that there is usually a natural way of structuring your answer: that is, a way of organising an answer which follows naturally from the jolly phonics, format of the question and which will put the fewest obstacles in the way of the reader: 'Explain' and 'why' questions demand a list of reasons or one big reason; each reason will have to be explained - that is, clarified, expounded, and Hour by Kate Essay, illustrated. 'Assess', 'evaluate' and 'define-the-significance-of' questions require judgements supported by reasons, explanation and evidence. You must show why your assessment is the s, best by considering its merits vis--vis alternative evaluations. It might be useful to define and defend the Mariette Essay, criteria on which your judgement depends. That is, to explain why they are the best criteria for judging the historical phenomenon at issue. 'What-role-did-X-play-in-Y' questions imply a functionalist approach - that is, they require that you identify the function of some phenomenon, group or institution within some specific system.

Thus, the subject of the question is the 'Y' rather than the 'X' element. That is, the question requires a discussion of the system as a whole and phonics s, the consideration of alternative explanations of how 'X' worked within it. 'To-what-extent' questions involve a judgement of measure. One way of answering the question would be set up a series of 'tests', as it were, that can be investigated in turn. This essay will examine five spheres which cast light on social definition, the extent of Jewish influence in high medieval France: namely, their role in the commercial life of the towns, the role of Jewish banking in phonics the agrarian economy, their influence on Christian intellectual life, .. [and so on]. The essay would need a conclusion in which you pulled together the results of Edward R Murrow, your test cases: It has been seen that the Jews exerted a profound influence on the intellectual life of the jolly phonics, universities but almost none on Edward R Murrow, that of the established monastic orders..

'Quote-and-discuss' questions require you to identify the issue at stake and to produce a reasoned response. You may respond, for example, by agreeing with the quotation in which case you will need to explain why agreement is the best response, why it would be wrong to disagree. You should consider the merits of a variety of phonics s, responses. If possible you should always examine the book or article from which the quotation has been taken in order to discover what its author meant by it, to discover how the racism in uk, author has understood the issues. 'Compare-and-contrast' questions demand the identification of similarities and differences. One method of tackling such an essay would be to distinguish five or six areas of similarity and contrast, and to devote a section of the phonics s, essay to each area - a section in which you would assess the degree of similarity and reach a sub-conclusion. The conclusion would then require a summation of the milton, various 'sub-conclusions'.

It needs to be stressed that none of these types of question calls for a narrative approach . You will never be asked to produce a narrative of what happened. In rare circumstances, a few sentences of narrative may form part of the evidence cited in support of a point, but the essay as a whole should be organised according to a logical structure in which each paragraph functions as a premise in the argument. The analytical and expository voice will always prove more effective than the jolly, narrative mode of racism in uk, writing. The aim of your initial reading should be to identify an argument which answers the question - one which you find plausible and can carry through with conviction. Jolly Phonics S? For this purpose, it will be useful to Chopin, read at least two or three items, including a recent book covering the general area in which the topic falls. Articles in reference books such as an encyclopaedia can provide an overview, but they rarely provide adequate coverage of the issues. Citing such works will undermine the credibility of your essay. Do not forget to jolly phonics s, make notes as you go. Making notes helps you to summarise arguments and ideas, to select points relevant to your essay, to clarify and adjust your understanding of the essay question and of the topic it bears upon. But your main priority should be to discover an Edward argument.

Once you have come up with a working argument, you need to jolly phonics s, draw up a plan to The Story Hour by Kate Essay, guide the next stage of jolly phonics, your research. It should comprise a list of the points which each paragraph will attempt to demonstrate, and rough notes on Mariette in Ecstasy, supporting examples. It may be useful to begin by thinking again what type of question you have chosen and by looking the natural way of answering it. In order to draw up a plan you will need to evaluate its merits: What points will I need to make in order to sustain this argument?

Are there alternative points of view which will have to be considered and phonics, refuted in order to racism in uk, make this argument work? Do I have enough examples and evidence to support the points which are crucial to my argument? Do I need to know more about the examples I'm planning to use? Perhaps there is another way of looking at this piece of evidence which I'll have to mention or even refute? Having decided on the line of argument you intend to use, and identified areas where you need more material, search the jolly phonics s, reading list and bibliographies of the texts you've been using for books and articles which will help you to Essay, solve these problems. Go and collect the phonics, information, making notes and adding notes to your plan as you go along. Do not forget to make careful bibliographical notes for every book and article you consult. You will need this information when it comes to footnoting your essay. Inevitably, the previous stage will turn up things you hadn't thought of and books with better things to say about the topic. Do not panic.

Ask yourself: can your argument be saved with a few adjustments? Does the argument need to be re-constructed from scratch? If so, how can I recycle the information I've already begun to collect? Much will depend upon how confident you now feel about your argument. Follow your instincts: if the argument feels wrong, look for a better one. It is constructs definition, better to start again than to write an essay that lacks conviction.

If complete reconstruction is unavoidable, go back to '5. Drawing up a Plan'. Having revised you argument (and plan), it's time to write your essay. If you've carried out phonics, steps one to five properly, it should be possible to write the first draft up in two or three hours. (a) Writing an Introduction. An introduction should show how you intend to in Ecstasy Essay, answer the question, by (1) indicating the phonics, line of argument you intend to take, by (2) giving an overview of the organisation of what follows, and by The Story Chopin (3) indicating the jolly phonics s, sort of America Nation of Immigrants, material or evidence you will be using.

It is an effective strategy, especially when writing a short essay, to begin with a bold, attention-grabbing, first sentence which shows the marker that you know what you are doing: that is, answer the question as briefly as possible with your first sentence. The second sentence should then enlarge upon the argument indicated by the first. (b) The body of the essay. Intelligent use of paragraphing is crucial to the success of an essay. Often, it is best to organise the paragraphs so that each makes and phonics, defends a point or premise essential the argument of the racism in uk, essay. (By 'premise' is meant a point which is jolly phonics s, part of and essential to the argument of the essay.) It must be entirely clear how your points fit into the argument: essays which meander around the topic leaving the marker to join the Is A Nation, dots to comprise an answer are not acceptable, since they fail to demonstrate understanding. It is a good idea to use 'topic sentences' to signal the subject and make explicit the point of each paragraph. These ought not to jolly phonics s, be too repetitive in form but should show how the paragraph fits into the argument of the Edward R Murrow, essay as a whole. The following topic sentences (here marked in red for clarity) would, for example, be appropriate as a way of introducing paragraphs that comprised a series of 'tests' in s a 'to-what-extent' essay that called for an assessment of the john shows, effects of the Black Death on the development of medieval Europe. (e) Once you have finished you should compile your bibliography . (f) Now save your essay, print out a text, put it aside for a couple of jolly phonics, days, and work on something else. Inevitably, when you come to re-read your essay, you will always think of social constructs, better ways of putting things. You may even think of supporting evidence you could add to the text, but make sure that any additions do not spoil the flow. You may find that some of your points are irrelevant: this material should be disregarded. You should also ask yourself whether the links between the jolly phonics s, paragraphs are clear and logical? Perhaps the essay would be more effective if they were put in a different order? If the essay has been written on a word processor it should be easy enough to achieve this by cutting and pasting paragraphs. Your essay should have a clear and consistent structure throughout, so that one paragraph follows another logically and carries the argument forward. You will need to edit: for grammar, spelling and punctuation; to remove unnecessary verbiage, colloquialisms and jargon; to ensure that the social constructs, footnotes and bibliography conform with the required style sheet; and for jolly phonics the coherence and quality of racism in uk, your writing.

You should always check the printed text of your essay before submitting it. Jolly S?
